How to prepare for conception: Getting ready
1 out of 8 couples experience infertility and difficulty getting pregnant, but what do you need to do before you even try to conceive? I believe preparation is the key to success. Starting 2-3 months before, these are some things you should do to get your body ready.
-
Get an updated physical exam and blood work
-
Quit smoking and avoid secondhand smoking
-
Stop drinking
-
Consume more organic foods and less preservatives
-
Get daily exercise to help reduce stress and promote good blood circulation
-
Avoid contacting any environmental pollutions, radiations, and products with added Plasticizer
For men, to help improve sperm quality and quantity:
-
Take Vitamin E and zinc to increase sperm count
-
Take Vitamin C to increase sperm motility
-
And take Maca root powder and ginseng root teas to improve Qi
For women:
-
Start taking and recording your basal body temperatures for two full menstrual cycles so you can track patterns
-
To gain weight if you are below standard, 15% gain would be ideal
-
To lose weight, 5% weight loss is recommended, especially if you already have irregular periods
Emotional Support commitment and communication:
-
To understand infertility is an effort that involves both partners. A husband or partner’s support is very important to make this difficult time easier.
-
It is going to be disappointment and stressful at times, but it is important that you communicate with each other and learn to cope with things that don’t work out immediately. Don’t point fingers.
Best time to have sex to increase chances for conceiving?
-
3 days before ovulation and 2 days after is the most effective time. Regularly and multiple times can increase the chances of conception. The key is the motility of the sperm.
-
A common mistake is to have sex only on the day of ovulation. Couples trying to conceive should starts days prior because sperm can survive up to 5 days in the female tract and it takes time for them to travel to meet the egg.
